Verdae Properties Inc. President Rick Sumerel said the company is doing due diligence on a potential hotel between Target and Nutra Manufacturing off Woodruff Road in Greenville.
The project is one of several the development company is exploring, he said.
Site Design Inc., acting on behalf of Verdae Properties, filed an application with the city of Greenville’s Board of Zoning Appeals to allow a larger parking lot than normally permitted to accommodate construction of a hotel on Green Heron Road.

Sumerel said he couldn’t discuss details, saying only that Verdae is in the due-diligence phase and that work is needed on the property before it could be developed.
“We’ve got a lot of projects in the early investigative due-diligence stages,” he said.
The property on Greer Heron Road adjoins more undeveloped property that likely will become residential, Sumerel said. That property abuts the retirement community Cascades-Verdae.
Verdae is a mixed-use development between Laurens Road, Woodruff Road and Interstate 85 that is being built in phases. Sumerel said lot sales are picking up this year and home construction is ongoing.
Verdae also continues its work on Legacy Square at Verdae, a 13-acre commercial development within the residential Hollingsworth Park subdivision. The YMCA of Greenville has signed a lease to occupy space there. Plans for Legacy Square also include restaurants, shops and office space. Legacy Square is under construction at the corner of Legacy Park and Rocky Slope roads, and the new Y facility is scheduled to open before the end of 2012.
