SCRA presented its Knowledge Economist Award to two Greenville Chamber executives Wednesday for their roles in the Next initiative that provides support for entrepreneurs in Greenville.

Chamber Executive Vice President John Moore and Vice President of Entrepreneurship Brenda Laakso received the recognition, presented by SCRA CEO Bill Mahoney at the annual InnoMobility conference in Greenville.

The Knowledge Economist Award is presented annually by SCRA to leaders whose efforts have supported and strengthened the knowledge-based economy in South Carolina.

Moore has helped develop and manage the Next initiative to encourage economic growth. Laakso was part of the team that founded and manages the initiative.

"SCRA is committed to the continued growth of South Carolina's knowledge economy and we are delighted to recognize these two individuals for their outstanding commitment and energy which has brought innovation and development to the Greenville area," Mahoney said in a press release.

SCRA’s Technology Ventures division provides young companies with support, mentoring and capital through its flagship SC Launch program.
