KBR Building Group has been awarded a contract by American Honda Motor Co. to construct a $20 million maintenance, repair and overhaul facility located adjacent to Honda Aircraft Co.’s world headquarters at the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, N.C.

KBR’s Greenville office will provide general contracting services for the 90,000-square-foot facility being constructed to support HondaJet. KBR Building Group is teamed with general contractor The Daniele Co. of Durham, N.C.

“Our construction schedule allows for Honda to take occupancy of the MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) facility in mid-2013 prior to the HondaJet’s entry into service,” said Greg Blinston, project executive, based in KBR’s office in downtown Greenville.

Last year, KBR Building Group completed construction of a 260,000-square-foot production facility for Honda Aircraft at the same site.

The new MRO facility will include a support center to facilitate maintenance for up to 12 aircraft simultaneously. There will be back shops for composite and sheet metal structures, avionics and interiors, and a customer area with a large pilot’s lounge, individual workrooms with conference space, and a flight planning room.
