Furman Insurance, a division of The Furman Co., recently acquired the property and casualty operations of Benefit Source Inc.

The acquisition brings on eight new employees and 2,800 new clients. Furman Insurance now serves 6,000 clients.

“I am confident that this acquisition will integrate complementary product lines, expand capabilities and further strengthen already outstanding customer service and support teams for a successful and prosperous future,” Furman Co. President and CEO Steve Navarro said in a news release.

The acquisition brings account managers and account executives; additional insurance company contracts and relationships; additional underwriting resources; and increased marketing capabilities to Furman Insurance.

With the expanded operations of Furman Insurance, the downtown Greenville office has also expanded by relocating to a larger space within the same building at 703 E. North St.

The addition of the BSI team will increase the capabilities of Furman Insurance’s existing garage and dealer program, as well as expand the workers’ compensation, retail, trucking and personal lines products offered.

Locally owned, BSI will continue to operate its group health and third-party administration business.

“When we were looking for a partner to take over our property and casualty business we wanted the same values and a local company who cares about our customers as we do. We found that partner in the Furman Co.,” said Robert P. Harling, BSI principal and president, in a news release. “We hope to have a long partnership as we continue to succeed in our Upstate community.”

Furman Insurance is an independent insurance agency providing service to commercial, personal, life and health clients through its network of insurance companies.
