Tencarva acquires assets of Nashville company

Tencarva Machinery Co., a Greensboro, N.C.-based pump distributor with an office in Greenville, recently acquired the assets of Nashville, Tenn.-based Southern Sales Co. Inc.

Tencarva distributes pumps, pumping systems, fluid handling systems and related products for the industrial and municipal marketplace.

Southern Sales provides pumps and pumping systems, blowers, filtration systems, wastewater equipment and systems, and sludge handling, among other products, to municipalities and service organizations. It has territory in Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio.

Former owners and officers of Southern Sales joining Tencarva will be Bill Allen as vice president of municipal sales, and Ed Guffee as general manager of the Southern Sales division.

All of Southern Sales’ 26 employees have been offered positions with Tencarva.

“We expect to take advantage of Bill’s and Ed’s expertise in the municipal market to grow our business in all regions,” Tencarva President Rod Lee said in a news release. “Southern Sales has several lines in common with Tencarva, including Gorman-Rupp and Lightnin. In addition to rotating equipment, they have significant sales of large process equipment for the municipal market.”

With the addition of the Southern Sales division, Tencarva has 334 employees at 27 branches in eight states, including Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia, according to a news release.

The acquisition became effective Nov. 30, 2012.
