The three-year contract, valued at $2.5 million, includes two one-year options for ongoing operation and maintenance.
The contract also calls for Iteris to authenticate and analyze multiple sources of traffic data for performance measuring and management.
The new system will be implemented in phases and will include improved voice recognition software, improved systems navigation, email alerts, mobile solutions and an improved 511 website, among other features.
“We are excited about working with Iteris on South Carolina’s next generation 511 system,” Dan Campbell, SCDOT Intelligent Transportation Systems coordinator, said in a news release.
Motorists can call 511 for road, weather, transportation and traffic information. SCDOT’s system also has a website.
Work on the project is expected to begin immediately.
