Unitrends to expand customer support staff

Unitrends, a data protection and disaster recovery solutions firm, announced Thursday plans to expand its customer support ranks in the company’s Columbia headquarters.

About 18 to 20 positions are currently open in Columbia, eight of which are for the support staff, the company said.

Unitrends is a privately held firm that also has operations in Burlington, Mass. The company has about 200 employees with more than half based in Columbia.

Unitrends’ expansion is being driven by an 88% growth in sales in 2012 over 2011. Also, the company said its customer satisfaction rate exceeded 98% for the year.

“We want our customers to sleep well at night knowing that if they find themselves in a disaster — one that jeopardizes their data and their jobs — help from a knowledgeable and dedicated Unitrends employee with the authority to make things right is one phone call or email away,” said Mike Coney, CEO of Unitrends.

Last month, Inc. magazine recognized Unitrends as one of the top five job creators in South Carolina in the publication’s inaugural Hire Power Awards. Inc. tracked companies over a three-year period, 2008 to 2011, for the award. During that time, Unitrends hired 30 new employees — growing its ranks by nearly one-third.
