Medtronic, a medical technology company, is planning to invest $6.5 million to expand its Greenwood County operations.
According to the company, plans include adding new equipment to the Emerald Road location. Medtronic manufactures medical devices including medical sharps disposal units, medical monitoring devices and advanced surgical technology products.
“Since the 1960's, we have been delivering quality health care products from 525 North Emerald Road and with the addition of new equipment and the commitment of the skilled people who run our machines, we will continue to do so far into the future,” said Jimmy Vickery, director of nursing care manufacturing for Medtronic, in a news release.
The company — based in Dublin, Ireland — plans to add a new production line at the facility “in an effort to meet increased customer demand.” The addition will increase production to up to 9,000 finished good units per day from the facility.
“It’s always exciting to see an existing Greenwood company decide to expand and invest more in our county,” said Steve Brown, Greenwood County councilman, in the release. “This announcement by Medtronic speaks to the business-friendly climate we’ve been able to cultivate in all of Greenwood County.”
The Greenwood County facility encompasses over 650,000 square feet and sits over 52 acres.
