After four weeks to prepare, Milliken & Co. has begun to mass produce Sporicidin disinfectant for Spartanburg-based cleaning supplies manufacturer Contec Inc.

According to a news release, similar partnerships usually take three to six months of planning before fruition. To ramp up for production of the disinfectant on May 12, Milliken acquired Environmental Protection Agency approval, assembled supply chain partners, organized existing inventory to make room for its new product and developed a training program for its employees.

“Milliken immediately came to mind when we decided to bring on a new manufacturing partner,” Jack McBride, Contec Inc. CEO, said in the release. “Milliken is a trusted, key community player with the mass production, quality systems and speed-to-market capabilities needed to help us provide critical cleaning solutions to health care facilities without delay.”

Contec’s Sporicidin disinfectant, marketed for mold and water damage as well as its low-toxicity and microbial properties, has been used in hospitals, medical offices and veterinary clinics since 1978.

“Spartanburg companies are rising to meet the global challenges brought on by COVID-19,” Halsey M. Cook, president and CEO of Milliken & Co., said in the release. “Partnering with Contec Inc. was a natural fit and gave Milliken the opportunity to quickly reconfigure our manufacturing capabilities and rapidly solve problems for our customers and communities.
