Steinway Artist Sandra Wright Shen will present a recital Thursday, Feb. 28, at 8 p.m. in Daniel Recital Hall on the Furman University campus.

Her concert is free and open to the public and is presented by the Furman Department of Music.

The program includes music by Bach, Beethoven, Liszt, Ravel, Messiaen and Chopin.

As Furman’s Distinguished Visiting Professor of Piano, Shen will also lead a master class with Furman music students Wednesday, Feb. 27, 8-10 p.m. in Daniel Recital Hall. The public is invited to attend.

Described as a classical “pianist of the first order,” Shen has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in 17 countries and throughout the United States at prestigious venues such as the Kennedy Music Center in Washington, D.C., the Chicago Cultural Center, Monte Carlo Opera House, Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona, Frankfurt Cultural Center in Germany, the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing, and many others.

Her recordings include her debut project featuring Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto, recorded live, and the Saint-Saëns “Carnival of the Animals,” both released on the Taiwan Rolling Stone Music label.

As an educator, Shen served on the piano faculty at the Brevard Music Festival, Masterworks Music Festival, Steinway Society Summer Music Camp and American Fine Arts Festival in Europe. She also served as piano faculty at Southern Illinois University.

An award-winning artist, Shen has won first prize in piano competitions including the 2012 France International Piano Competition, 1997 Hilton Head International Piano Competition, the 1996 Mieczyslaw Munz Piano Competition, and the 1990 Taiwan National Piano Competition.

Shen has also performed live for radio stations and filmed programs for U.S. and Hong Kong TV.

She is Honorary Advisor for San Jose Noon Arts non-profit organization and serves as a board member for Inspiring Foundation of Arts and Culture in Taiwan.

Born in Taiwan, she received her Bachelor/Master of Music with a piano performance major and organ minor from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, where she studied with legendary pianist Ann Schein and organist Donald Sutherland.
