Greenville architects and landscape architects are joining the Upstate Transportation Coalition to conduct a Park(ing) Day event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday near the corner of Main and Coffee streets, where they intend to transform a parking spot temporarily into a tiny park.

Park(ing) Day is a loose, international effort to call attention to the need for more urban open space and to generate debate around how public space is created and used, according to the event website. Citizens, artists, and activists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into miniature parklets of public space or “Park(ing)” spaces.

The S.C. chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects will participate in Park(ing) Day 2018 in at least three cities around the state, according to an announcement from Earth Design of Greenville.
