Joyner Commercial, the commercial division of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices C. Dan Joyner Realtors, has selected artist John Gregory, also known as Daso, to complete a 1,960-square-foot mural on the outside wall of the company’s office at 230 Buist Ave. in Greenville.

Daso poses by a smaller version of the mural expected to be completed in May. (Photo/Provided)When Joyner Commercial moved from the West End, they purchased the corner of Rutherford Road and Buist Avenue from Jimmy Von Hollen, whose father built the office and warehouse in 1953 for his electrical engineering company, Huntington & Guerry, according to a news release. As the second occupant of the building, Matt Carter, broker in charge for C. Dan Joyner, wanted to honor the building’s history with something special, according to a news release.

“From the early 1900s, Huntington & Guerry was an important part of Greenville’s textile history, and with our own experience with mill brokerage, we felt it was important to acknowledge the electrical contractor and Jimmy’s family,” Carter said in the news release. “When I met John Daso as he installed a large mural off Augusta Street, I knew something really good could happen.”

The city of Greenville approved the final mural design in November and Daso began mapping his original work on the side of the building in mid-April. He expects the work to be complete by the end of May, weather permitting, the release said.

Daso’s work hangs in buildings at the nation’s capital and around the country and is in the permanent collection of the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History, the release said. His work also is in the personal collections of Barack Obama, George Bush, Oprah Winfrey and the late political activist Julian Bond.
