Domestically, BMW Group sales have been down over the last three months. Following another drop in March, the group reported an overall decrease of 10% in group sales in the first quarter of 2016.

U.S. sales of the BMW brand were 30,033, according to a BMW Group report, which was a decrease from the 34,310 sold in March 2015. Brand sales in domestically in the first quarter were down nearly 8,000 from the same time a year ago.

The group did report an increase in the Upstate-produced X3 model as sales of the vehicle jumped 190% to 4,476 for the month. Additionally, according to figures published by the BMW Group, domestic sales of the X4 and X6 also increased for the month. However, X5 sales dropped by 17.6% for the month and are down 14.5% for the year.

Ludwig Willisch, president and CEO of BMW of North America, said that the first quarter has been “tumultuous” as there has been “plenty of volatility even in the premium vehicle segment.”

“The desire for premium Sports Activity Vehicles continues accelerating at a strong pace in the U.S. and I’m very pleased that our SAV plant in South Carolina will make another production increase in the months ahead to help us satisfy the ever-growing demand for our X models,” Willisch said in a statement.

Mini brand sales were also off for the month of March as BMW reported sales down 18.3% for the month over the same time a year ago. In the first three months of the year, the brand had a decrease of 15.2% from the first quarter of 2015.

One increase reported was in domestic motorcycle sales as BMW Motorrad had a 19.6% increase in U.S. sales compared to March 2015.

The company did report an increase in sales of both BMW and Mini certified pre-owned vehicles. In March 2016, BMW reported 10,203 certified pre-owned sales which is an increase of 6.7%. Mini pre-owned sales were up 15.8% for the month and 13.5% for the first quarter.
