Despite a 7.9% year-to-date decline in domestic sales, the BMW Group said sales of its X model sports activity vehicles – made in South Carolina – have continued an upward trend.

In a report released by the company, BMW model sales in the United States dropped 4.6% in the month of September as the group said it sold 25,389 compared to 26,608 sold in September 2015. Sales of the BMW X1 jumped by 2,463 vehicles for the month while the Greer-produced X3 had sales jump by 3,829 in the month.

The BMW 7 Series also experienced an uptick in sales as the company reported an increase of 1,201 vehicles in the series sold during the month.

“Once again, our Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs) are leading the way, accounting for 44% of BMW September sales, the second month in a row for such a percentage,” said Ludwig Willisch, president and CEO, BMW of North America, in a news release.  “At the same time, I am also pleased to see demand for our flagship 7 Series continuing to increase with solid numbers over a year ago.”

Sales of BMW and Mini combined dropped by 5.2% in the month as the company reported September sales of 29,413 compared to 31,022 sold in September 2015. Group sales in the U.S. are down by 8.8% for the year.

Mini brand sales declined by 8.8% in September as the group reported 4,414 sold in the month. Mini USA reported a decrease of 13.5% in sales for the first nine months of 2016.

Certified pre-owned BMW sales continued a record pace as 11,178 such vehicles were sold in September – setting a record for the month. The tally was a 28.5% increase over September 2015. Total BMW pre-owned sales jumped by 61.6% from September 2015, also setting a record for the month.

The company also reported a record month in the sales of Mini certified pre-owned vehicles with 925 sold – a 2.3% increase from the same time a year ago.
