BMW and Mini brand vehicles continue to experience a slump in U.S. sales.

According to the BMW Group, October sales of BMW brand vehicles dropped 18.4% while Mini brand vehicles had a 3.3% drop in domestic sales.

In October, the company said 24,017 BMW brand vehicles sold compared to 29,439 sold during the same month a year ago. BMW brand sales are down 9% year-over-year for the first 10 months.

South Carolina-produced X models continue to experience domestic sales increases. Sales of the X3 increased 21.5% to 3,680 vehicles in October while the X1 sales jumped 350.9% to 2,710. The 7 Series increased to 1,133 vehicles sold in October. Sales of the X4 and X5 were down 16.9% and 9.5% for the month and 15.8% and 18% year-to-date.

Ludwig Willisch, BMW of North America president and CEO said the U.S. auto market continued to be volatile as company sales have fell off their 2015 record pace.

“At the same time, BMW Sports Activity Vehicles – X1 to X6 - have set a new record, more than 100,000 sold year to date, accounting for 47% of our October sales, with room for more growth as demand for these popular models continues to increase,” Willisch said, in a news release announcing the sales figures.

Across the BMW Group – BMW and Mini sales combined – the company said U.S. sales were off by 16.6% from their 2015 numbers. Year-to-date, the group said sales are down 9.6% from the same period a year ago.

Mini sales dropped to 3,954 in October 2016, down from the 4,087 sold in October 2015. Mini USA reported a 12.4% decrease in sales in the first 10 months of 2016.

While new vehicle sales continued to slide, sales of BMW and Mini pre-owned vehicles set October records. BMW certified pre-owned vehicles had 11,310 sold in October, an increase of 18.2% from the same month a year ago. Mini certified pre-owned sold 1,016 in October 2016, up 1.7% from last year.
