Winston-Salem, NC-based Branch Banking and Trust, or BB&T, has announced plans to build a new mortgage services center in Mauldin.

According to the S.C. Department of Commerce, the financial services company will invest $30 million to construct a 140,000-square-foot facility at 825 E. Butler Road. The facility will house more than 600 employees who will “work primarily in administrative, back office and support functions,” according to a news release.

“With this state-of-the-art facility, we will be better equipped to provide our clients with superior service, as we help them fulfill the dream of homeownership,” said Tol Broome, BB&T mortgage lending president, in the release.

BB&T has more than 2,196 financial centers across 15 states and is a Fortune 500 company. The company expects to complete construction of the new facility by the fourth quarter.

“The addition of BB&T will positively impact our community and generate more opportunities for the entire Upstate, and we are committed to working with them to make this endeavor a huge success,” said Dennis Raines, mayor of Mauldin.
