SBA extends assistance to Upstate businesses impacted by storms

Following tornadoes and severe storms that whipped across the state in February, Spartanburg, Greenville, Laurens and Union counties have been approved by the Small Business Administration for low-interest disaster assistance.

“The SBA is strongly committed to providing the people of South Carolina with the most effective and customer-focused response possible to assist businesses of all sizes, homeowners and renters with federal disaster loans,” Jovita Carranza, federal administrator of the SBA, said in a recent news release. “Getting businesses and communities up and running after a disaster is our highest priority at SBA.”

Gov. Henry McMaster opened the state to SBA disaster assistance through a letter approved on March 31 for businesses impacted by the COVID-19 shutdown. Loan opportunities now will also be extended to victims of the February storms via a Virtual Disaster Loan Outreach Center on the SBA website, which is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to the release.
