Anderson University Center for Finance and Economics has created a $30,000 student-managed investment fund for 11 different equity sectors.

Students will monitor and report on the fund to Kent Saunders, program director and faculty adviser, as well as the CFE fund committee, enabling students to engage in shareholder advocacy and impact investing beyond the classroom, according to a news release.

“The use of real money gives students the additional responsibility to act as stewards on behalf of their clients,” Saunders said in the news release.

Center of Finance and Economics Director Gordon Smith echoed in the release that the program will give students a leg up after graduation when applying for jobs or graduate schools.

The program also connects students to Anderson’s wider business community. For example, Jamie Seagrist, associate at NovaQuest Capital Management, will oversee the fund’s implementation as a committee member.

“The fund will provide an exceptional opportunity to gain real-life experience managing money,” she said in the release. “This will be an extraordinary chance to bring God glory by utilizing a biblical lens in the financial decision-making process.”
