Spartanburg chamber launches labor law, HR events

The Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with labor and employment law firm Ford Harrison, has scheduled workshops on labor law and human resources through a program called Chamber Exclusive Series. The series provides “necessary information to keep your business compliant in 2019,” according to the chamber.

The first event in the Chamber Exclusive Series is on labor and employment law and will be April 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., at the Spartanburg chamber at 105 N. Pine St.

Additional events include:

April 23: Wage and Hour Update: Learn about key minimum wage and overtime compliance issues through a look at the U.S. Department of Labor’s actions during the Trump administration and what major changes are expected to be coming soon.

May 14: Labor Update and Protective Concerted Activity for the Non-Union and the Unionized Employer:  In recent years the NLRB overruled long standing precedent and engaged in rulemaking that placed additional burdens on employers. The new composition of the NLRB has started the process of unwinding these decisions. This session will focus on the current status of these changes and what to expect in the future.

May 28: Protecting Company Assets: Learn about best practices for drafting and enforcing non-competition and restrictive covenant agreements.

June 11: HIPAA and Healthcare Records — What’s Protected and What Isn’t: Understanding the unique challenges facing institutions regarding privacy concerns and access to protected health information is critical to preventing missteps.

June 25: 10 Tips for Avoiding Employment Litigation:  Learn practical tips for active employee management to avoid claims or put your company in the best position to defend a claim.
