The Greenville Chamber will host its ninth annual Athena Leadership Symposium, headlined by Carla Harris, managing director and vice chair of Morgan Stanley, Nov. 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event, held virtually this year by the Greenville Chamber, will center around the best practices for advancing women’s leadership and corporate board service in the Greenville business community, according to a news release. Each year, the chamber presents an Athena Leadership Award to a local leader who has made strides in assisting women in the workplace and beyond.

“For our region to truly become globally competitive, it is imperative that we develop world-class talent and build inclusive organizations,” Carlos Phillips, president and CEO of the Greenville Chamber, said in the release. “This important event helps develop the leaders we need now and in the future.”

In 2013, keynote speaker Harris was appointed by President Barack Obama to chair the National Women’s Business Council and has received national awards for her leadership. After earning an MBA from the Harvard Business School and an AB in economics from Harvard University, she chaired the Morgan Stanley Foundation board and The Executive Leadership Council. She currently serves on the boards of Education Opportunity, A Better Chance Inc., St. Vincent’s Hospitals, Harvard University and Walmart Corp.
