In an interview with GSA Business Report, Tim Lowe, president of Lowes Foods, said plans to build two stores in the Upstate are moving as scheduled.
In July 2015, the grocer announced plans to build its first location in the Upstate at Suber Road and Hammett Bridge Road in Greer. Then, in December, Lowes said it was planning a second Upstate location at the northwest corner of Woodruff Road and Sunnydale Drive in the Five Forks area of Simpsonville.
The Greer location is scheduled to be completed in late summer or early fall of this year.
“We are right on plan, progress is going really well and we are still looking for an early fall opening for that location,” Lowe said.
The new store will include various “special store areas” such as a site for the store’s craft beer collection, the Community Table where shoppers can sample and learn how to prepare local foods, and a place where coffee beans are roasted on-site. The Greer store will also feature the Lowes Foods-To-Go online personal shopping service, according to Lowe.
“We’ve got some new things that I think people are really going to enjoy,” Lowe said. “There will be some new concepts that folks really haven’t been able to experience down there.”
Construction of the company’s Simpsonville has begun, and Lowe said the target open of spring 2017 is still planned.
“We are going to build an outstanding store in Greer and an equally outstanding store in Simpsonville,” Lowe said. “There is even going to be some unique twists to the store in the Five Forks area that we haven’t even announced yet.”
The plan for the Simpsonville location is similar to the store in Greer, complete with a craft beer location, Community Table and a bakery.
Most recently, Lowes Foods announced plans to build a location in Lexington County. The company also said it was remodeling its existing stores and had plans to expand into additional markets by 2019.
Lowes Foods is headquartered in Winston-Salem, N.C., and has 95 locations in North and South Carolina and Virginia.
