The Center for Developmental Services is planning the first phase of renovations at its Academy Street location in downtown Greenville.

According to a news release, the first phase includes expansion of its Wonder Center. The center is a day care for medically fragile children operating under the Children’s Hospital of the Greenville Health System. The expansion will give the center capacity for nine to 12 more children to receive full time care, bringing the total number of children to nearly 40.

Funding for the expansion came from J.L. Mann High School’s 2015 spirit week and from the Golf for Greenville event being held in May. The Wonder Center is staffed with pediatric nurses and a child development specialist.

DP3 Architects Ltd. was selected as the architect for the project and Creative Builders Inc. is the general contractor. The expansion of the Wonder Center is expected to begin in late January. The second phase of the renovation will be to create a waiting room area for immune-suppressed and cardiac-risk infants.
