Fluor Corp., with its design-build LAX Integrated Express Solutions joint venture team, has broken ground on the Los Angeles International Airport’s Automated People Mover project. Fluor and its partners are set to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the $4.9 billion project over the next 30 years, according to a news release.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2023 and includes building six stations along a 2.25-mile guideway where driverless vehicles will arrive to transport passengers every two minutes during peak periods. The new line will offer ridership capacity of up to 10,000 passengers per hour, the release said.

Fluor is based in Irving, Texas, and has offices in Greenville.
