AZZ Inc. acquires Upstate galvanizing company

AZZ Inc., a provider of galvanizing, metal-coating and welding solutions, as well as specialty electrical equipment, has agreed to aquire all assets of Blacksburg-based Steel Creek Galvanizing Co.

Steel Creek is currently housed in a 83,000-square-foot facility with 25-ton crane system and 55-foot long kettle used to galvanize large steel structures needed for critical infrastructure, according to a news release.

AZZ expects the acquisition will be accretive to earnings within the first year of operation, according to the news release. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The new facility will be operated as AZZ Galvanizing-South Carolina and as one of 40 sites across North America, it will help the company expand services to key markets in the Southeast including Charlotte, Greensboro and Atlanta.

Steel Creek Galvanizing Co. first announced plans to move to the Upstate in 2017 through a projected $14.1 million capital investment slated to create 72 jobs at the 576 Tribal Road site.
