Modal will offer a rare combination of boutique B&B and hostel-style rooms while giving guests an unprecedented hospitality experience: in contrast to common lodging alternatives, Modal will be a capstone of cultural and communal experience for travelers venturing to Greenville,” the hostel said in a news release.

Modal’s Touchless Tour will allow masked guests to walk through the three dormitory-style rooms and two private suites — which can sleep up to 23 guests — built by founders Joe Hindman and David Stone in a renovated dentist’s office at 813 Augusta St., according to the news release.

“In my concept here, I’m targeting individuals who are similar to my professional background,” Hindman told GSA Business Report last year. “By trade I’ve been a marketer, designer, visual artist — so there’s enough of a market here in Greenville that’s growing in our local arts community. I want to be that conduit to tie our local community to national and international communities.”

“A lot of hostels traditionally have bars or restaurants attached to them that are open to the public,” Hindman told GSA Business Report. “I don’t have that luxury here because of square footage, but I still wanted to have a little bit of space where locals could come and participate in what’s happening, like music events or art shows.”

The open house will be followed by a drop-in reception for the exhibition from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. where masks and social distancing will be enforced, according to the release. Guests to the open house are required to wear masks, have temperature checks on site and register for the four-person tours prior to arriving.
