Greenville Tech gets education donation

The Foundation for Geriatric Education has donated $4,150 to Greenville Technical College to purchase tools that will improve geriatric education for students in the nursing assistant, physical therapist assistant and occupational therapy assistant programs, according to a news release.

This gift will enable the college to buy a series of DVDs on dementia for nursing assistant students, along with a geriatric simulator and teaching tools for physical therapist assistant and occupational therapy assistant students. The simulator is a wearable suit that enables students to personally experience age-related physical and sensory changes while the accompanying tools include presentation slides and assessment activities, the release said.

“We are grateful to the Foundation for Geriatric Education for funding important educational tools that improve geriatric knowledge,” Ann Wright, vice president for advancement with the Greenville Tech Foundation, said in the release. “It is especially gratifying to us to know that current employees are funding gifts that ensure future employees will be well prepared.”

The foundation was established by Dr. Carl Adams, founder of NHC Healthcare, and is funded through money raised by employees. Money is used to purchase equipment, videos and books that improve the quality of education in the field of geriatrics. NHC Healthcare Mauldin and NHC Healthcare Greenville contributed equally to the Greenville Technical College gift, according to the release.
