(Photo/Molly Hulsey)Finance news publication Money pointed the spotlight on Greenville in its recently published list of “The Best Places to Live if You Work from Home,” along with Parker, Colo., Portland, Ore., and top contender Reston, Va.

Greenville came in ninth place with its median home price of $250,000 and its ratio of 11 restaurants per 1,000 residents, the highest of all locations on the list. At least 5.1% of the working population set up a home office before COVID-19, according to the publication.

“Downtown Greenville is the place to be at any time of day, with its store- and restaurant-lined streets, brightly lit sidewalks and outdoor plazas,” the article said. It also cited Greenville’s nine hospitals, the most per-person on the list.

The city is also the most affordable on Money’s list for home prices and cost of living, with monthly child care costs in the county scraping $500 per child, according to data from the Economic Policy Institute.

Money compiled the list from cities with populations above 25,000, lower than double the national crime rate, more than 85% of its state’s median household income and racial diversity as compiled by Synergos Technologies Inc.’s analysis of FBI and census data.

All cities with a median home sale price of $615,000 were also eliminated, leaving 1,720 cities that were weighed by cost of living, quality of life, mental and physical health, diversity, amenities, education quality, housing market and economic health metrics. At-home convenience such as access to high-seed internet access, daycares and parks also played a role.

Greenville followed Reston, Va.; Lower Merion, Pa.; Naperville, Ill.; Ann Arbor, Mich.; Roseville, Calif.; Parker, Colo.; Cedar Park, Texas; and Portland, Ore., respectively. Tweksbury, Mass., ranked No. 10.
