Greenville County is sending 45 firefighters and six sheriff’s deputies to Columbia in preparation for Hurricane Matthew.

According to a news release from the Greenville County Fire Chiefs’ Association, the firefighters and deputies will leave for Columbia on Friday morning.

Those deploying are members of the Greenville County Emergency Response Team and will leave from the Boiling Springs Fire District headquarters at 9 a.m.

“While these fire fighters are deployed to aid in the hurricane response, Greenville County’s fire chiefs want the public to know that fire protection in the county will not be affected thanks to numerous mutual aid agreements that are currently in place and allow multiple departments to respond to emergency situations and supplement personnel across jurisdictions,” the release said.
