AnMed Health will close its two outpatient pharmacies and transfer its prescription drug inventory to CVS Pharmacy, effective April 11.

Ten pharmacy employees will lose their jobs, although hospital spokeswoman Lizz Walker said they will be invited to reapply for other positions at AnMed Health.

Prescription records will be transferred to the CVS Pharmacy located at 1405 East Greenville St. in Anderson on April 11. The AnMed Health Pharmacy storefront located at 700 East Greenville St. will remain open for the sale of medical equipment, CPAP services and oxygen. The pharmacy located in the Oglesby Center at the AnMed Health North Campus will close.

“Over the last couple of decades, we have found it increasingly difficult to compete with the buying power of large national chains in the retail pharmacy business,” said Garrick Chidester, AnMed Health executive vice president, in a news release. “The time has come for us to refocus our resources on key strategic priorities while aligning with community partners to ensure the continued good health of those we serve.”

Patients who have prescriptions on file at either AnMed Health Pharmacy location will not experience any disruption in service and do not need to do anything to transfer their records to CVS Pharmacy, according to the news release.

AnMed Health’s medical equipment and oxygen business will not be affected by this transition. AnMed Health will continue to sell respiratory and durable medical equipment such as oxygen, CPAP and BiPAP equipment, walkers, wheelchairs and orthotics at the Greenville Street location.

Last November, AnMed Health announced the layoffs of 94 employees and the elimination of an additional 65 vacant positions.
