GE teams up with United Way to aid health care workers, first responders

GE Appliances plans to donate products from its nine domestic manufacturing sites to health care workers and first responders on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

GE, in collaboration with United Way Worldwide, will donate thousands of appliances via its GEA4Heroes program, according to a news release. The United Way will coordinate donations to individuals in health care or on first-response teams, as well as organizational donations on a critical-need basis.

“These men and women are working around the clock to keep us safe. We're relying on them, and they are relying on us and the products we make to keep their families safe and fed,” Kevin Nolan, president and CEO of GE Appliances, said in the release. “Appliances are essential right now to help keep food and medicine safe, laundry and dishes sanitized, and food prepared for families. Our country needs us now more than ever before and it's essential that we take care of our fellow Americans, especially those who are taking care of us.”

The Louisville, Ky.-based company has already begun to make donations, such as N95 masks and newly manufactured face shields in its hometown, according to the release.

“From our recent conversations with front-line first responders, we know there is a real and immediate national need for appliances. We appreciate this partnership with United Way to meet this need now, and we will continue to look for ways our company can be helpful in the days and weeks to come,” Nolan said.
