A day after announcing a new senior vice president of mergers and acquisitions, Agape Care Group has announced an acquisition.

Agape Care, a Spartanburg portfolio company of Ridgemont Equity Partners, acquired GHC Hospice, according to a statement Wednesday from Agape Care. Founded in 2014, GHC provides hospices services in 25 counties in Georgia and South Carolina.

With the acquisition, Agape Care Group expands its end-of-life care team to 1,450 employees caring for 3,600 patients across the Southeast. Agape Care Group and its affiliates now serve more than 85% of the counties in Georgia along with operations across both Carolinas, the news release said.

“Our team is excited to welcome the 135 new teammates from GHC Hospice joining Agape Care Group,” Troy Yarborough, Agape Care Group CEO, said in the release. “GHC’s track record of strong clinical quality, patient-centered focus and reach into more rural communities enables us to connect with more patients and families with high quality end-of-life care services in underserved geographies. This further expansion in Georgia and South Carolina strengthens our team and solidifies our position as a leading hospice and palliative care provider across the Southeast.”

GHC Hospice will continue to operate under its current name in the near term, stated the release, which did not disclose terms of the deal.

Agape Care on Sept. 12 said that Alex Ferguson will be the senior vice president of mergers and acquisitions. Ferguson, who has 14 years of experience leading business development, will assess and prioritize mergers and acquisitions opportunities to match the company’s growth trajectory and vision for expansion, the release stated.

“We are excited to have Alex join the team, enhancing our expertise in attracting and integrating great health care companies,” Yarborough said in the release. “He will play a crucial role in the expansion of the Agape family as we continue our mission of being the premier provider of care in the Southeast.”
