Plate 108 announces May cooking classes

Plate 108 has announced its lineup of cooking classes for May. The cooking and entertainment venue in downtown Greer also has summer culinary camps for kids planned.

According to a news release, the cooking classes this month include “Date Night Plate Night,” “Farm to Plate 108” and “30 Minute Meals.” A complete list of classes, as well as how to register, can be found on the Plate 108 website.

The culinary camps for kids start in June. 


Anderson County students place in national culinary arts competition

Culinary students from the Anderson Career and Technology Center placed in the top five at the National ProStart Invitational, held recently in Charleston.

(Photo/Provided)According to a news release, the team faced off against more than 400 students from across the country at the event that features two separate competitions: The management competition, which requires participants to develop and defend a business proposal for a restaurant, and the culinary competition, in which teams are allotted 60 minutes to prepare a three-course meal without access to electricity or running water.

The management team from Anderson won second place and the culinary teamed won fifth. South Carolina was the only state that placed in the top five in both categories, according to the release. The students won scholarships, trophies and bragging rights.

Supported by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, ProStart is a career and technical education program focused on teaching culinary arts and restaurant management fundamentals through a combination of classroom and industry instruction.
