The city of Greenville is hosting a kickoff meeting to discuss the Swamp Rabbit Trail Extension Master Plan at 5:30 p.m. on Monday at the University Center Greenville auditorium.

The city has hired Stantec’s Urban Places to develop a master plan for the area located along the planned 4.5-mile extension of the Swamp Rabbit Trail. The study area for the master plan includes private property and public rights-of-way located within approximately a quarter mile on either side of the trail’s proposed route along Laurens Road from Cleveland Park to the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research, according to a news release.

The objectives of the master plan are to develop policy and land use recommendations, conceptual plans for key redevelopment opportunities along the trail and creative strategies to encourage redevelopment of private property and connectivity with the multi-use trail extension, the release said.

The kickoff meeting is one of several community engagement opportunities that will be available over the six-month planning process. Attendees can meet the consultant team, learn about the planning process and project goals and provide input on the vision, opportunities and challenges in the study area, the release said.
