A trio of brewers who created their own brand by contracting time at an Upstate brewery have plans for their own facilities in downtown Anderson.

Magnetic South Brewery has announced plans for a location at 516 N. Main St. with an anticipated grand opening next summer. The facility will include full brewery operations and a taproom, kitchen, indoor seating and an outdoor beer garden.

Magnetic South will join Carolina Bauernhaus brewery and winery and Electric City Brewing Co. in downtown Anderson. The Magnetic South brand was honed as the co-owners developed beer that was served at the Smokin’ Pig in Sandy Springs before the COVID-19 pandemic began. They also sold beer from an event truck and at a few locations in the Upstate. The Anderson location will give them a brick and mortar home.

“The beautiful thing here for the local beer enthusiast is that we now have three breweries within walking distance, which is worth traveling for,” Tanner Coombs, co-owner of Magnetic South, said in a news release. Paul Cain and Adam “Cuzzin” Willier are the other co-owners. Willier is the head brewer.

“I always aim to brew beers that can be enjoyed by both the experienced beer buff and the novice beer drinker,” Willier said in the news release.

The trio said a third brewery in Anderson can make the city a destination for beer enthusiasts and will play an important role in expanding the renewed part of downtown by another block.

“Our goal is much larger than making and selling beer; we’re here to connect with the community, become an integral part of it,” Cain said in the release. The facility will have its own parking lot and will be part of Anderson’s downtown streetscape expansion project.

The brewery real estate transaction was facilitated by Max Kinser of McCoy Wright Inc. The property is located in a company-sponsored development and is part of the firm’s efforts to help revitalize Anderson.

“Magnetic South Brewery will provide another solid retail anchor for the downtown community and McCoy Wright is excited to welcome them to Anderson,” Kinser said in the release. “We are always willing to put forth effort to further our hometown community and expect further interest following the lead of Magnetic South.”
