Pro angling competitions come to Lake Hartwell

(Photo/FIle)Amateur and pro anglers are marking their calendars for a trip this spring to Anderson County, where Crappie USA will host its regional championship qualifier from March 5-6 on Lake Hartwell’s Green Pond Landing.

The competition, presented by Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s, guarantees a $10,000 payout for one-day events and $20,000 for two-day events, according to a news release. Crappie USA rolled over three of the two-day events from 2020 due to COVID-19 cancellations.

Anglers can also compete in a $50,000 points race and the opportunity to qualify for the $25,000 payback Crappie USA Regional Championships and the 2021 Crappie USA Classic Championship, also scheduled for Anderson in Oct. 14- 16, according to the release.

The 2021 Crappie USA Classic will feature a guaranteed payout of $165,000 in cash and prizes. Last year’s classic was hosted in Columbia, Ky.

 Teams of one or two anglers can register early on the CUSA website, and participants must be a member of the American Crappie Association. The Anderson Sports and Entertainment Center will host a late registration and pre-tournament seminar event on March 4.

Quality Inn Anderson and Hilton Garden Inn will host lodging for the event.
