Long before Chris Stone’s retirement in December, Dave Edwards, chairman of VisitGreenvilleSC, knew that the hunt for a new head to Greenville’s growing tourism bureau would be no hasty matter, he told GSA Business Report last year.
After more than five months of interviewing and working with an executive search firm, the board of directors has named a 25-year veteran in the hospitality sales field, Sheryl D. Lang, president and CEO of VisitGreenvilleSC starting June 2.
“This is the perfect time to join VisitGreenvilleSC and I am excited to work with the Greenville community to promote travel and tourism throughout the region,” Lang said in a news release. “Without a doubt recovery from COVID-19 is on everyone’s mind and I know that with all of the offerings, and the multitude of things to do here, Greenville is in a prime spot for a strong and consistent rebound.”
With years of experience managing multiple properties under both independent and global resort and hotel brands, Lang’s skillset crosses multiple disciplines including hospitality, wellness and luxury goods, according to the release.
“While I thrive in a fast-paced environment and look for agility and adaptability in my teams, I also take measured steps to ensure that growth and evolution are rooted in positive progress for the organization,” Lang said in the release. “I fundamentally believe that our approach to work is a reflection of who we are at our core as individuals. I’m passionate about working with organizations that have a commitment to excellence in customer experience and quality for both customers and colleagues. I’m excited to embrace the team at VGSC, and the community at large.”
Lang has held numerous sales and marketing positions with prestigious brands including Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, the Camberley Hotel Collection, Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Morgans Hotel Group, AHG Hotel and Resort, and Crescent Hotels and Resorts. Most recently, Lang worked as the chief strategic officer for LGS Group.
“Sheryl is bringing a wealth of experience from the hospitality industry that will further augment an already talented VGSC team,” Edwards, also the CEO of the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport District, said in the release. “Her past experience in business and talent development, sales and marketing, and community and stakeholder engagement will help to position VGSC as an organization that can meet and exceed the expectations of its stakeholders. She is a proven leader that has vision, is passionate about the industry, and committed to excellence. The bottom line: Sheryl is the right person, at the right time, to be the next leader of VGSC.”
