Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Allen Smith has been named to the board of directors of the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives. His term begins at the group’s annual convention next week in Nashville, Tenn.
Smith has been president and CEO of the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce since June 2014 and has been a part of the 50% growth in the chamber’s annual budget and 25% growth in chamber membership. According to a news release, Smith led the effort to create the five-year comprehensive community and economic development strategy called OneSpartanburg, a $5.1 million plan launched in January.
As a member of the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, Smith earned the professional organization’s Certified Chamber Executive certification in 2012. According to the release, this is the only national designation for chamber of commerce professionals. Smith also is a graduate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute of Organization Management.
