In November 2015, Wynit Distribution LLC announced it was moving its corporate headquarters and 111 jobs from New York to downtown Greenville.
On Friday, the wholesale distributor said it was reorganizing its structure and closing its wholesale distribution division based in Greenville. The move will impact 140 employees.
“We are grateful for the welcome Greenville and South Carolina gave us,” said Pete Richichi, Wynit COO said, in a news release. “This is not what we wanted or expected.”
He said a lackluster holiday selling season and the company’s inability to adjust quickly enough to industry changes led to the decision to close the Greenville operation.
The company’s software publishing and supply chain service divisions — both based in Minnesota — will remain open. Richichi said a transition team will be in Greenville through the end of the year to help with the reorganization.
“This was purely a financial decision,” Richichi said. “Our hope is we emerge a better company.”
The company was founded in 1987 and a satellite office opened in Piedmont in 2010. The 36 employees at the satellite office also moved to the new headquarters at the One Building in Greenville in 2015. Wynit operated customer service, purchasing, finance, marketing and parts of its IT and logistics teams out of the Greenville location.
