Manufacturers across the state can now access classes at Michelin’s AP TEC Training School for workforce development.

The program, called “Talents for Manufacturing,” was developed through the company’s partnership with the Commerce Department and the S.C. Manufacturing Extension Partnership.

Headquartered in Greenville, Michelin North America operates 13 manufacturing and research facilities that employ more than 9,000 people in the state.

“Michelin believes that strong and stable careers in the manufacturing industry contribute to strong and stable communities for all of us,” SCMEP President and CEO Andy Carr said in a news release. “Having a highly skilled workforce is essential to the success of our state and region. The community’s commitment to build, develop and grow the workforce of the future is aligned with Michelin’s purpose to give everyone a better way forward through economic stability and workforce development.”

Working in partnership with the Commerce Department, SCMEP will cover up to 50% of registration fees for Talents for Manufacturing training classes for qualified manufacturers in the state. Qualified companies must be identified as a manufacturer by NAICS coding. Eligible employees for training must work in South Carolina and cannot be covered by other grant funds such as for Incumbent Worker Training

The Talents for Manufacturing program includes six classes:

• Programmable Logics 5

• Pneumatics Systems

• Hydraulic Systems

• Allen Bradley Control Logix

• Industrial Mechanical Technology

• Electrical Control Technology

Courses range in duration from five to 25 days and the maximum number of participants is 10 students per class. Instructors will conduct all classes at the Michelin Sales Training Center, 505 Michelin Road in Greenville.

The first class offered, Programmable Logics 5, will begin on Aug. 1. Classes covered by the grant must be completed before June 30, 2023, according to the release.
