SCRA has invested $200,000 in Global Transplant Solutions in Duncan. The investment announcement was made recently during an event that also included Spartanburg Community College announcing it is renaming its Center for Business and Entrepreneurial Development as Spark Center SC. Global Transport Solutions is located in Spark Center SC.

John Bruens, CEO of Global Transplant Solutions, said the company supplies a organ preservation solutions to the Canadian transplant market and has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the first product in the United States. The SCRA investment will be used to finalize global sales, develop proprietary products and further the research efforts, according to a news release. In addition to the Spark Center SC, the company also has an office in Toronto.

The services offered at Spark Center SC include soft landing, incubator, workforce services and special projects, according to the release.

"We are approaching 12 years at the SCC Tyger River campus; and after operating as the CBED we realized we needed a new name so everyone would automatically recognize what we're doing and the services we provide. We believe our new name, the Spark Center SC, does just that," said Mike Forrester, Spartanburg Community College's vice president of economic development, in a news release. "This name ties us to Spartanburg and brings to mind a spark that ignites an idea."
