A technology and services company is planning to expand its operations in West Union.

Itron said it was investing $8 million in new capital and plans to create 100 jobs at the Oconee County location, according to the S.C. Department of Commerce.

“Itron, through past acquisitions, has been located here for more than 50 years,” said Mike Higgins, Itron Oconee senior operations manager, in the release. “We are proud of our roots in the area, and we are glad to support economic growth in South Carolina."

The company manufactures products that “measure, manage and analyze energy and water,” according to the release. Products include electricity, gas, water and thermal energy management devices and control technologies; communications systems; software; and management and consulting services.

Itron’s Oconee County facility, located at 313 S. Highway 11 in West Union, will be reconfigured to begin the manufacturing of natural gas meters, according to the release.

“For decades now, Itron has called Oconee home and continued to showcase to the world that companies in our community will have long-term success manufacturing products for a global consumer base,” said Edda Cammrick, Oconee County Council chairwoman.
