A Germany-based polymer manufacturer opened a $14 million plant in Duncan.

Albis Plastics Corp. started production in July and plans to add up to 60 new jobs at the site in the next few years. The company said it plans to manufacture 30 million pounds of its technical compound per year. The facility will also manufacture recycled plastic compounds in a joint venture with William Barnet & Son LLC — a manufacturer and exporter of resins, yarn and synthetic fibers based in Spartanburg.

Before opening the Duncan plant, Fuhlendorf said to satisfy orders in North America, the company subcontracted its manufacturing or imported it from Europe. He said the new facility will decrease lead time to deliver its plastic compound to customers.

“Duncan is an ideal location due to South Carolina being an important hub of the automotive industry,” Fuhlendorf said. “It provides us with a very good access to global OEMs and their suppliers in the U.S. as well as in Mexico.”

Albis Plastic manufactures plastic compounds at facilities in Hamburg, Zulpich and Obernburg in Germany as well as Manchester in the United Kingdom, Humenné in Slovakia and Changshu in China.
