German company Mapal Inc. is investing $4 million to expand its facility in Greenville County. The capital investment is expected to create 16 jobs, according to the S.C. Department of Commerce.

Located at 110 Valley View Road in Fountain Inn, the custom tool manufacturer will build a 7,600-square-foot office building adjacent to its existing facility. It will also be expanding manufacturing capabilities at the site. Construction is scheduled to begin by the end of the year, and completion is expected by late 2018, according to a news release.

"One of Mapal's mottos is 'Always close to the customer, everywhere.' For the Southeast, we chose the Greenville area and that has been a great success story,” said Mapal COO Rene Kristensen, in the release. “This expansion will allow us to better serve our customers as well as expand our customer base.”

A subsidiary of the German-based Mapal Group, Mapal Inc. has had a presence in the United States for more than 40 years with locations in Fountain Inn and Port Huron, Mich. With more than 200 employees, the company makes custom tools supporting the automotive, medical, general machining and aerospace sectors.
