Nestlé Purina celebrated the grand opening of a new pet food factory in Hartwell, Ga., on Monday.
Company officials said the plant brings 240 jobs to the plant and a representative of Nestlé Purina said about a third of the new hires are driving across the lake from South Carolina.
The plant is a $320 million investment driven by a rising demand for wet cat food, according to an announcement from Nestlé Purina. It is the company’s first new U.S. factory in two decades and their largest single investment in a pet care facility in the last 10 years in all of the Americas.
The plant, at 266 Industrial Park Road, will soon be powered 100% by renewable energy and already has a program in place to produce zero waste, according to the announcement.
