Spartanburg Community College gets grant for student publication
Spartanburg Community College has received more than $500 from the Chapman Cultural Center to help the college produce a new student-managed literary and arts magazine.
Awarded as part of the center's community grants program, the college received $517.33 toward the production of Ascend Magazine, which will be released in spring 2018.
"We are so grateful to the Chapman Cultural Center for the support," said Ember Smith, a Spartanburg Community College English faculty member and the magazine adviser, in a news release. "Ascend will provide our students the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents, as well as gain experience in project design and management. They are excited to have a chance to express themselves and build their skills, and this grant will help them reach their goals. We look forward to showcasing work by our talented students later this spring."
Students will manage the magazine from beginning to end — everything from soliciting submissions from peers, layout and design work, to coordinating final production with a local printing company, according to the release.
