Greenville Area Development Corporation

The Greenville Area Development Corp. will give free infrared thermometers to Greenville County businesses.

The rapid-screening AET-R1B1 thermometers detect temperatures using human body heat via the forehead, even from within a vehicle, according to a news release. GADC will prioritize companies with “essential critical infrastructure workers” working in close contact for the give-away.

Dollar General Literacy Foundation

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation gifted $8,000 to non-profit United Ministries to bolster adult literacy in the Greenville area as part of its $8.6 million national grant campaign.

“During these extraordinary times, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation remains steadfast in its commitment to support communities’ literacy and education advancements through funds that will impact thousands of students across the county,” Todd Vasos, CEO of Dollar General, said in a news release. “We are proud to support the meaningful and impactful work that each of today’s recipient’s conduct and support their ongoing efforts to help individuals improve their lives through literacy and education.”

United Ministries will use the grant to support its adult education program, which mentors individuals preparing for GED tests.

“The generosity of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation will go toward the salaries of our adult education program staff who are working diligently to improve adult literacy in hopes of providing more opportunities for those in our community to thrive,” Lizzie Bebber, executive director of United Ministries, said in the release.
