United Way of Greenville County organizes drive for homeless
To honor the life and legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King, United Way of Greenville County is hosting a drive on Friday, Jan. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to collect supplies for those struggling with homelessness in the Upstate.
The following items can be dropped off at the United Way office at 105 Edinburgh Ct., Greenville, on that day or can be arranged for pick-up on another day by contacting unitedwaygc.org/donate under the subject line “MLK Service,” according to a news release.
NEW blankets and water bottles packed inside a backpack are the greatest needs, according to United Way. Single donations of items will be accepted as well.
- New blankets and water bottles, especially inside a backpack
- Unused backpacks at least 18.0 inches x 12.0 inches x 7.0 inches
- New reusable water bottles, especially with a flip top or straw
Anderson United Way spearheads month of service campaign
United Way of Anderson County is inviting citizens to join the nonprofit in its celebration of “Dream Month” in celebration of the life and work of King with a social media service campaign.
The organization will host a giveaway for people who post a photo of themselves volunteering or serving the community in any way and tag United Way of Anderson County, as well as three other friends, during the month of January, according to a news release.

Usborne Books & More contributes to SC First Steps with purchase
Usborne Books and SC First Steps will celebrate MLK Day of Service with a book drive on Monday supporting child literacy and inclusivity, according to a news release.
SC First Steps is prompting customers to purchase a new book for children in the state who may not have one, or for their own children, on Usborne Book’s site, and the book store will match 60% of every contribution.
