The newest addition to Verdae’s Legacy Square will be dubbed The Sumerel in honor of the development’s late president and CEO, Rick Sumerel.

The 50,000-square-foot mixed-use space at Rocky Slope Road will house NHE Inc.’s new headquarters, Southeastern insurance defense law firm Willson Jones Carter and Baxley, Greenville-based wealth management firm DeHollander and Janse Financial Group and a newly announced AO-The Space, a day spa and salon, according to a news release.

“Rick played a major role in attracting NHE to Verdae years ago, and he became a great friend in the process,” Taylor Davis, CEO of NHE Inc, said in the release. “I’m sure he would be thrilled with the completion of our new headquarters building, and we wanted to honor him for his part in our success.”

Sumerel spearheaded masterplan for the 1,100-acre Verdae development in 2005 including Hollingsworth Park and Legacy Square.

AO will open its 5,300 square-foot spa and salon in early July on the Sumerel’s ground floor after relocating from North Pleasantburg Drive. The spa will offer clinical medical services including dermaplaning, collagen induction therapy, high-intensity focused ultrasound and chemical peels, while its salon and day spa arm will provide massage therapy, reflexology, ionic foot detoxes, corrective hair coloring, manicures and pedicures.

“We are so excited to be here, and look forward to bringing Apple Organics to Verdae,” Jessica Kelly, owner of AO and chair of Greenville Technical College’s cosmetology board, said in the release.  “AO is a premium skincare line, without the premium price tag or attitude. It’s healthy, affordable and all-natural skin care that beautifies our customers, our community and ecosystem.”

The Sumerel is expected to welcome a restaurant and event space in the coming months but tenants have not been announced.
