Spectrum donation supports efforts to stop crimes against children

Spectrum representatives donated $11,534 to the S.C. Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services through Defenders For Children. The donation is being used for specialized training and equipment needed for the department’s K-9 unit.

“It’s wonderful that companies like Charter support safer communities as we work to protect and serve citizens,” Jerry Adger, director of the department, said in a news release. “We are very thankful for Charter Communications’ generous donation facilitated by Defenders for Children for our K-9 unit.”

K-9 “Chip” is a yellow Labrador retriever that recently completed training to detect electronics. He and his handler will be deployed for searches in the Upstate to locate hidden evidence ranging from micro-SD cards to external hard drives, according to the news release. Evidence collected will help in the prosecution of those who continue to engage in crimes against children.

“We have a strong tradition of giving back to the communities where our customers and employees live and work,” said Jane Rhodes, senior vice president of corporate physical security at Charter, which operates the Spectrum brand of broadband, video, mobile and voice services. “Funding programs for law enforcement organizations helps build connections to communities and contributes to overall safety.”

Spectrum serves 954,000 customers in 153 South Carolina communities with a workforce of more than 3,100 people in the state. The company’s largest employment centers are in Greer, Simpsonville and West Columbia.
