Improvements to the entrance of Southern Wesleyan University in Central are set to begin this fall. The project includes adding a turn lane on S.C. Highway 93, while a portion of Clayton Street will become a divided roadway from the highway intersection to a point between Fernway Drive and Perimeter Road beside the P.B. Wood Golf Driving Range/Practice Facility.

“This has been a top priority project as campus traffic has become exponentially busier due to the University’s contagious generosity with the community, and expansion in athletics and events at the growing venues nearby,” said Todd Voss, Southern Wesleyan University president, in a news release.

Southern Wesleyan approved plans presented by the S.C. Department of Transportation on July 18. Work has started on relocating utility lines at the site. According to S.C. DOT, work on the intersection is scheduled to begin in the fall and may take approximately one year to complete.
